Mind-bending paradigm shifts on reality as you knew it
DARKFIELD is back in Brisbane just in time for the Halloween spooky season to immerse you in the world of the supernatural and board you on a flight from which there is no return!
Two innocent looking shipping containers transport you through to the realm of the uncanny-valley in pitch-black darkness. You will delving into your sub-conscious using immersive 360-degree audio, unnerving sensory effects and two hyper-realistic sets for two incredible immersive experiences.
David Rosenberg and Glen Neath are the British Artistic Directors of DARKFIELD, specialising in unique immersive theatre installations. They utilise sensory deprivation combined with unnerving narratives to test the individual who dares to enter each of the 40ft custom-built shipping containers.
Their installations have reached over 500,000 audiences across the UK, Asia, Australia and Mexico and have showcased at the BFI London Film Festival, Venice, IDFA, Tribeca and Raindance festivals.
Australian Realscape Productions, who specialise in experiential theatre, are presenting two of DARKFIELD’s experiences SÉANCE and FLIGHT in the grounds of the Queensland Maritime Museum alongside the Japanese Maho Magic Bar.
SÉANCE is a 20-minute immersive theatrical experience where you participate in a Victorian-styled Séance whilst engulfed in darkness. Participants wear sound-cancelling headphones for a 360 degree soundscape, meaning no-one can hear you scream!
As you are submerged in the ethereal world you question what you are really sensing and what is transposed from the other side. Was that movement and breeze the person next to me or something else? How can you tell? Is there an actor amidst the inky blackness or is it all in your mind?…
FLIGHT is equally disturbing but in a contrary manner. You board the plane through the only EXIT point and strap yourself into a real aeroplane seat after stowing your luggage and ensuring your table is closed and your seat in the upright position. As you place your headphones on for the journey you notice the TV’s mounted above the seats are showing the safety briefing.
It also seems so very familiar. However, there is no view out of the windows and instead of the lights coming on for takeoff, you are plunged into blackness for a journey you will vainly try to forget.
The Captain tells you that “In the unlikely event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, alternative scenarios will be provided”. There are many worlds in which this plane lands safely, but which one are you on?
This is no flight of fancy and you have no inkling of your Final Destination. Just remember to check where the only EXIT is before you are plunged into darkness…
These are both unique and experiences you will never forget and I urge you all to book in now, lest you regret it!
Everyone’s experiences are unique, only you can tell what is real or imaginary, or can you?…
