Rhino horn poaching

Saturday, March 22, 2025
by Mick Smith

We’ve all heard about one of the most critical environmental and wildlife crises of our time – rhino horn poaching and the illegal trade that fuels it. But how much do we really know about goes on? Whether you’re an environmental advocate, wildlife enthusiast or just someone who wants to understand more about this urgent issue. 4ZZZ's intrepid reporter, Anita Diamond, interviewed journalist Mic Smith, who conducted his research at Griffith University on the topic of rhino horn poaching.

For a deep dive...

Here is where you can read Mic Smith's story on rhino horn poaching "Amid rhinoceros poaching frenzy, dark days for South African society". You can also find similar topics and other articles he's written on rhino horn poaching here. You can also visit the Environmental Investigation Agency's (EIA) website to find out more on environmental issues, such as the rhino horn trade, and their investigations into these crimes. Another great resource is the CITES website which is the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The South African Department of Environment also do annual reports on rhino poaching. Mic Smith's story on The Saigon Horn can be found here too.
